Overview
The 12-day Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar Yatra is a meaningful spiritual journey through the spectacular landscapes of Tibet. Starting in Kathmandu, Nepal, this overland pilgrimage follows the Kerung (Gyirong) border route, crossing mountain valleys and the vast Tibetan Plateau before reaching the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar.
Mount Kailash holds profound religious significance for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon. For Hindus, it is regarded as the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, while other faiths associate the mountain with their own spiritual traditions. Nearby, the pristine waters of Lake Manasarovar offer pilgrims a peaceful setting for prayer, meditation, and religious rituals.
The highlight of the journey is the sacred Kailash Parikrama, also known as the Kora, a pilgrimage circuit of approximately 52 kilometers around Mount Kailash. Completed over three days, the route passes through dramatic mountain scenery, ancient monasteries, and the challenging Dolma La Pass at approximately 5,630 meters.
With overland transportation, accommodation, meals as specified, and assistance with permits and travel arrangements, this pilgrimage combines spiritual discovery, Tibetan culture, and remarkable Himalayan landscapes. Due to the high altitude and demanding walking sections, proper preparation and acclimatization are essential.
